Three 1st-Place Wins for Glenview Soccer Club and FC-1 Academy

This past weekend, several teams from GSC and FC-1 Academy made the trek to Rockford for the Superclubs Champions Cup. Three teams returned home with first-place medals.

Glenview Soccer Club's U12 Girls Elite team were division champs and they went undefeated in their four games. The girls faced a stiff challenge in their first game against Crystal Lake, trailing 2-1 in the second half. The team rallied late, scoring the winning goal with four minutes remaining for a 3-2 victory. They went on to dominate their opponents with a record of 23 GF and 4 GA. Throughout the tournament the players grew together as a team both on and off of the field.

The Glenview Soccer Club U11 Boys Elite team also took first place in a tough U11 Boys Gold division that included teams from YSSL  D1 and D2.1 (Glenview plays D.2.1). The team went 3-1 in the tournament. In the championship game, U11 Elite defeated FC Barrington Black 1-0 in a hard-fought battle, scoring with just seconds to go in a second OT period. Great teamwork, solid defense, and top-notch goalkeeping all contributed to an amazing weekend of soccer and fun for the U11 Boys Elite team.

FC-1 Academy's U13 Girls Select team came out on top in the U13 Silver Division with a 3-0-1 record, including a 2-0 victory over a tough Barrington team in the final match. The team played well together, scoring 8 GF and allowing just 1 GA in the four matches. They showed signifcant growth from the beginning of the season, and their strong passing skills and great teamwork gave them an edge against competitive opponents.Congrats to the players and Coach Mike Barshai, who coached all three first-place teams.

All the fun wasn't just on the field. On Saturday evening, players and parents got together for a pizza party. The event was very successful, with some 60 players and parents in attendance. Thanks to U13 Girls Select team manager Jeanne Sullivan for organizing!
