At Glenview Soccer Club, all team training is carried out under the supervision of the Director of Coaching, Albert Gudmundsson. Albert joined Glenview Soccer Club as a coach in January 2004, and accepted the Director of Coaching in April 2006. Albert has played professionally in Canada, the US, and Sweden. He has seven caps for the Icelandic National Team, including games against Sweden, Russia, Norway and Turkey. He also played 8 European Championship games with his Icelandic club, Valur.
Albert began his coaching career at the age of 18, as Assistant Coach for Valur’s Women’s team, in Reykjavik. The following year, as their Head Coach, the Women’s team won the Icelandic Championship. Albert has coached in Iceland, Sweden, Germany and the US for over 15 seasons, including 4 years as a player/coach in Sweden.
If you have any questions about tryouts, questions or comments about your child's performance, position on the field or anything else, you can email Albert and he will get back to you in due course.
All Glenview teams have paid, professional coaches who organize and run the training sessions and coach at the games. For more information on our coaching and training staff, see the coaches page. Teams also have volunteer assistant coaches and managers, usually the parent of a player on the team. The assistant coaches are all required to have a coaching license, so they are qualified to step in if the head coach must be absent.
Training sessions run during the regular season, plus about two weeks prior to the start of the season. During the winter, the club has indoor training at multiple locations. Many teams also play in indoor leagues during the winter. Indoor training and leagues are not included in the club fees. Training Schedules are located with the Fields information.
All Glenview head coaches have coaching licenses obtained through taking clinics and completing testing. We encourage all volunteer assistant coaches to also obtain a license. If you help coach a Glenview team and complete the course to obtain a license, the club will reimburse your clinic fees.
For a complete list of available IYSA clinics, click here. Once you have completed the clinic and want to submit your fees for reimbursement, click here. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) also conducts excellent training programs. For more information on their programs click here.
Glenview Soccer Club offers Summer and Pre-Season Camps to their players. Click here for more information on Glenview SC Camps.
There are also many local soccer training camps available.
The Northwestern University camps are attended by many Glenview players. We encourage all players to attend soccer camps, as this is a great way to improve your skills and stay in shape over the off season.
During the winter, the club offers indoor training sessions for for all age groups at multiple nearby locations. Teams are also encourged to participate in indoor winter leagues.
